From the Lips of Children

Posted by Jennifer Kidd on

It was Friday, children and parents were leaving, props were coming down. Another week of VBS in the books. It had been a good week, with even more children than expected and lots of wonderful volunteer leaders. There was a building excitement and energy on campus all week as children heard and experienced in creative ways how to trust and follow Jesus.

As goodbyes were being said and hugs shared, a young mom came rushing in apologetic about picking her young son up a few minutes late. “Was he good?” she asked me. I assured her he had been and that we were glad to have him.

As we continued to visit she shared with me how her son had really gotten “it” this week. “He totally got it about Jesus…how he was God’s Son and He died on the cross for us. How He didn’t stay dead, but came back to life. He got every detail.”

Evidently the little boy had come home the day before and told his entire family everything he had learned about Jesus, and what He did on the cross for each of us. The mom went on to tell me her son had never been exposed to God or the church, but had always been drawn to anything of a spiritual nature. “I raise my children with the freedom to believe in God…or not to. It’s their choice to make,” she said. And her son did just that.

On Thursday, after hearing the salvation story, he came home declaring the good news of Jesus to the entire family and exclaiming, “He’s real mom. He’s real. God is real!” And just like that …from the lips of a child, the heart of a family was changed and positioned towards the Lord. Praise be to God!

This is why we as a church—all ages, all gifts--come together for a week of VBS every year. It’s a time for all of us to grow in our faith…and most importantly it’s a time for some to hear the good news of Jesus for the first time and to believe. Hallelujah! Amen!

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise…
