New Ministries Pre-Approval Process

As Central continues to grow, we anticipate that God will be leading people to initiate new ministries that will impact others for Christ.  This is positive for the Kingdom of God and beneficial for the life of the church.  Below are some basic criteria and simple processes for birthing a new ministry through the church, as well as terminating an existing ministry that has run its course.

Criteria

•    There must be a layperson to champion the ministry.

•    The ministry idea must fall in line with the mission of CUMC to make Christ central to life for the people of Northwest Arkansas and around the world.

•    The ministry idea must fit into the discipleship process of Connect, Grow, Serve, and Reach.

•    There must be a minimum of three people from different family units who form the initial team.

•    The visionary(s) must agree that the ministry will be terminated in the event that there is no longer a layperson with the passion and gifts to lead it.

Process for beginning a New Ministry

•    The visionary(s) should first seek the Lord in prayer before bringing his/her idea into the life of the church.

•    After much prayer, the visionary(ies) should contact the Director of Missions and Lay Mobilization, who will schedule a meeting with the visionary and appropriate program staff to discuss the ministry idea.

•    If the above-mentioned criteria are met, the Director of Missions and Lay Mobilization, in consultation with appropriate program staff, will have the authority to approve the ministry with an initial budget up to $200 from the Visions line item.  COM will need to approve anything over $200.

Process for terminating a Ministry

•    The ministry captain should communicate, in writing, to the Director of Missions and Lay Mobilization about his/her decision to discontinue leadership in that ministry.

•    In the event that no successor emerges who possesses the gifts and passion for that ministry, the Director of Missions and Lay Mobilization, after consultation with the Program Staff, will officially terminate the ministry.
